Teacher naturalist
training program
Do you like working with kids? Do
you want to learn more about nature? The Warren County Conservation
District (WCCD) is holding a Teacher Naturalist training beginning
June 1st and continuing every Saturday until June 29th.
The classroom session of each topic will be taught from 9:00 am –
11:00 pm and the corresponding outdoor class will be taught from
11:30 am – 1:00 pm. Please bring a packed lunch.
Classroom sessions will be
taught at the WCCD office located at 210 North Drive, Suite E, at
the State Hospital Grounds in North Warren. Locations of outdoor
classes will change depending on the topic.
Session topics include
agriculture, soils, forestry, water and wildlife. Now don’t let the
term “teacher naturalist” throw you. You don’t have to be a teacher
to participate, nor do you need a degree in environmental studies.
All you need is a love of learning, nature, and a desire to inspire
our youngsters to learn about and take care of this marvelous
planet that is our home.
WCCD will expect volunteers who
complete this training to help with summer conservation camps held
the second and third weeks of July.
If you have criminal background
and child abuse checks completed for your current employer or other
volunteer work we will need copies of those results to have on
file. If you do not have a criminal background and child abuse
check completed it will be your responsibility to have those
completed. The cost is $20 which you will be required to cover;
however, once you have dedicated 15 hours of volunteer time to WCCD
summer camps we will reimburse that amount.
If you are interested in this
worthwhile volunteer program please contact Jean at 814-726-1441;
